Will the State Forests build wind farms?

What is the role of energy security issues, which energy sources are the most acceptable? What are the expectations regarding the energy transformation, climate neutrality, pro-ecological awareness of the society? These and many other questions were tried by the participants of the next conference of the West Pomeranian Self-Government Forum series organized by the think tank Nobilis Media. The leading topic was renewable energy sources.

Edward Siarka, secretary of state in the Ministry of Climate and Environment, referring to the challenges that Europe and Poland are forced by climate change, drew attention to the specificity of our country, especially forests, which naturally absorb huge amounts of harmful carbon dioxide.

- Europe has 37% of forested areas, Poland - 30%. - recalled the deputy minister, adding that after the Second World War, we had 20 percent forested. area of the country. - Ultimately, we intend to afforest 33 percent. country.

The minister emphasized various functions of forests: social, natural, industrial, and pointed to parks and reserves. He also drew attention to the rational forest policy of areas that in Poland are owned by the state treasury, while in Europe - mostly private.

Wood (40 million cubic meters annually) accounts for 15 percent. Polish exports - continued Siarka. - Which places us in fifth place in Europe. - We have 26 thousand foresters and the entire industry provides jobs for half a million people. The secretary of state assured that logging does not cause any major damage to nature. He also emphasized the importance of biomass or pellets obtained from it as an ecological energy fuel.

Will it be possible to build wind farms in forests? The deputy minister sees opportunities, especially in areas that are managed by foresters, industrially degraded and not always suitable for afforestation. But for this you still need to prepare legislation - noted the speaker. - We have many renewable energy sources, they must be used to the maximum.

During the debate, Małgorzata Szambelańczyk, president of Eurowind Energy, emphasized that there are good practices when building windmills in forest areas. In many European countries, such facilities operate in forests. On the other hand, Katarzyna Suchcicka, CEO of OX2, a company operating in the field of renewable energy sources, made conference participants realize that 10 percent of this year's balance sheet energy in our country will come from onshore wind farms.

Paweł Mirowski, vice president of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, explaining the main areas of support from the fund, emphasized that only for the Clean Air program this year. PLN 7.5 billion is allocated, of which PLN 5 billion will be non-returnable aid. In total, this program has the amount of PLN 103 billion. But the fund also provides assistance through programs such as Clean Electricity and Clean Water.

- We have invited commercial banks to participate in these programs, which in return will receive subsidies - continued President Mirowski. - We also conduct a wide promotional campaign to encourage the use of the Fund's programs. We are introducing incentives for local governments to engage in and use the NFEPWM's proposal. We are running a pilot program in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, under which, by joining the Clean Air program, you can obtain up to 37,000 jobs. PLN non-returnable aid.
